all-star athleticism

lately i’ve been congratulating myself for not buying much clothing, but that all came to an end last weekend when my cousin came to stay with me for a long weekend. i never know where to take out-of-towners to shop in NYC- even the stores that are inexpensive in relation to the rest of the city would be on the mid to high end of the price spectrum in my hometown.
i was actually surprised when my cousin, who typically despises shopping, asked what stores we could hit. so i took him to uniqlo, and while he scoped out the endless walls of tee shirts, i browsed the +J collection. i know it’s been around at uniqlo for a long time, but i’ve never looked before.. and never realized that i LOVE almost every piece from the collection.
the poofy tan skirt, made of a rough material that reminds me of a parachute, was the first thing i grabbed. it has a good amount of volume, and also seems like it might be water-repellant. win, win.
the +J collection includes a lot of different windbreaker jackets that are fitted, and all have some kind of interesting ruching. i’ve actually been needing a windbreaker for running in bad weather, but have been too cheap to buy one at an athletic store because they’re all so ugly. this one will come in handy- it even comes with a little pouch for the jacket, so you can hang it from your running belt when you don’t need it.
anyway, i was inspired by uniqlo’s styling of the +J line, combining the windbreakers with their dressier skirts, and the fancy skirt silhouettes in rough fabrics.
when i wore this outfit, i kept thinking how sporty and athletic i looked. maybe my idea of athleticism is a little idiosyncratic, but oh well.
i have one more piece from the +J collection- a dress- that i’ll show you on monday, because i need some opinions on it.
and for now, i’ll leave you with a quote from ‘upright citizens brigade’ that i always think of when i’m wearing a sporty outfit: “this cafe smells weird. somebody must be wearing sports deodorant or something. ugh. it’s clogging up my nose with it’s all-star dumbness”. fin.
